• Fly from London to Cagliari, then it is a leisurely drive to Orgosolo with occasional stops en route for birding, and our first taste of what Sardinia has to offer.
    • Accommodation: Orgosolo, 2-nights on full board basis
    • We dedicate the entire day to visiting the Parco Nazionale del Gennargentu to search for birds such as Corsican citril finch and hawfinch, and late-flying butterflies, plus other wildlife in this mountain region.
    • Today we continue to Cagliari, stopping en route near Lago Omodeo for species such as cirl and corn buntings. We make another stop near Oristano to look for birds in the coastal lagoons such as greater flamingo, herons, egrets, ducks and waders, before continuing to hour hotel.
    • Uta, Cagliari, 5-nights on full board basis.
    • This morning we visit the WWF reserve of Monte Arcosu to search for birds, butterflies and other wildlife on the lower slopes of this 3,000-foot-high mountain. Possibilities include migrant warblers such as Sardinian, garden and melodious as well as flycatchers and more. There is also a possibility of seeing golden eagle or the endemic Sardinian sub-species of red deer.
    • A somewhat earlier breakfast gives us time to drive to Portoscuso to catch the ferry over to the island of San Pietro. The main aim of our visit is to spend time watching the superb and elegant eleonora's falcons which are breeding at this time of year. There should be plenty of southbound migrants to see, as well as possibly some shearwaters and cetaceans offshore.
    • After our time in San Pietro, we travel back to our hotel near Cagliari.
    • Staying relatively close to Cagliari today, we visit a number of coastal marshes and 'salinas', in order to view migrant waders as they head south from their Arctic breeding grounds. We also hope to see many other species including wagtails and warblers.
    • The next day  continue to explore the local marshes and some rocky coastal areas to look for migrants in the Mediterranean scrub as well as possible shearwaters out over the sea. There is still plenty of time to explore other marshy areas, as well as any favourite spots we may have visited during our week’s stay. Once again we will return to the hotel in plenty of time to relax before our final overnight stay.
    • Depending on flight times, we may be able to fit in a final burst of local birding before heading to Cagliari airport for the flight back to London.
