• Fly to Anchorage and transfer to our accommodation.
    • Anchorage is a delightful, small city with some great museums, shops and restaurants and you may want to consider arriving early to spend time here at your leisure. We can certainly help with your arrangements.
    • Accommodation: Anchorage, 2-nights on full board basis.
    • After breakfast we bird along the Coastal Trail that takes us to Westchester Lagoon, a site with very approachable waterfowl, waders and bald eagles.
    • In the afternoon the focus is on culture, seeing the city highlights and visiting the excellent Anchorage Museum with exhibits on art, history and science.
    • After breakfast, we start our drive with a stop at Potter Marsh to view nesting Arctic terns, waders, mew gulls and spawning salmon. On our drive we will be looking for beluga whales in the channel and Dall sheep on roadside cliffs.
    • We stop for lunch and then visit the 1896 Kenai Russian Orthodox Church, before boarding a boat to the boardwalk community of Halibut Cove for dinner.
    • Accommodation: Lands End, Homer, 2-nights on full board basis.
    • We start the day at the Wynn Nature Centre where we will view wildflowers and then search for varied thrush, Townsend’s warbler and alder flycatcher.
    • After lunch we visit the Pratt Museum, an excellent natural history and historical venue to learn more about this part of Alaska.
    • We retrace our drive to the junction at Tern Lake following the Kenai River. We bird the edge of the lake before having lunch at a local roadhouse.
    • After lunch the remainder of the day is free to explore Seward. There are opportunities to visit shops, bird the coastline for marbled murrelet or visit the Alaska Marine Life Centre.
    • Accommodation: Seward, 2-nights on full board basis.
    • Today we embark on an all-day boat trip through Kenai Fjords National Park and then out to the Chiswell Islands.
    • Thousands of puffins, the rare Kittzlitz murrelet, orca, humpback whales, glaciers and some of the most stunning scenery in Alaska. A remarkable day with non-stop wildlife opportunities!
    • Today we drive back to Anchorage, birding along the way. This gives us another opportunity to look for beluga whales in Turnagain Arm, and Dall sheep on the cliffs above the highway. We should arrive in time to allow for more exploration of Anchorage and time to get our gear ready for the early departure to Denali National Park.
    • Accommodation: Anchorage, 1-night on full board basis.
    • We start out early taking a shuttle to the Denali Railroad Station. Here we are met by the naturalists of North Face Lodge, and take their private shuttle buses 150 kilometres deep into the park. Along the way we have a picnic dinner on the banks of a glacier-fed river. It takes us seven hours to get to the lodge for our dessert because of all the wildlife and scenery stops.
    • Accommodation: North Face Lodge, 3-nights on full board basis.
    • We have two full days with staff naturalists to explore the spectacular wilderness of Denali National Park. Our lodgings offer us great comfort, delicious meals, warm hospitality and private baths. The family owners’ commitment to fine food, great hikes, local expertise and regional conservation are just some of the highlights. Each morning, expert naturalists offer a variety of hikes into different habitats.
    • The return trip through the park has the feel of a safari, as we never know what is around the next bend. Our early departure after breakfast means more wildlife activity: a wolf, a grizzly sow with cubs or maybe Dall sheep. By noon we are back at the train station and soon on our way back to Anchorage.
    • Accommodation: Anchorage, 1-night on full board basis.
    • We have a free day in Anchorage before transferring to the airport for our overnight flight to London.
