Churchill Beluga Whale Tour

This summer tour to the north will introduce you to the flora, fauna and history of one of the most interesting towns in the province of Manitoba. Highlights include viewing the Beluga Whales at the mouth of the Churchill River, an interpretation of the history of the Hudson's Bay Company, and a Tundra Vehicle excursion. This tour is locally guided.
Day 1
The tour begins onboard Via Rail's Hudson Bay train, departing Winnipeg today. Private sleeping accommodation has been reserved for you.
Day 2
As the train travels slowly north, you will have the opportunity to view the changing landscape. The rolling wheat fields of the Manitoba prairie give way to the dense boreal forest, and eventually the muskeg of the sub-Arctic.

Day 3
Upon arrival in Churchill, you will be met at the train station and transferred to your accommodation. Discover Churchill's colorful history on this afternoon's Cultural and Historical Tour. Explore the town and visit local attractions such as Cape Merry and the Polar Bear Compound. Learn the unique history of a town built by true explorers.
Day 4
Today you will embark on a three-hour boat tour to view the pods of Beluga Whales. These magnificent, playful creatures migrate along the coast of the Hudson Bay, and thousands may be in the mouth of the Churchill River at any one time. The boats are equipped with onboard hydrophones that magnify the vocalizations of these whales. An interpretive tour of the historic Fort Prince of Wales is included.
The afternoon offers free time to visit the Parks Canada display and the famous Gypsy Bakery. Spend time at the renowned Eskimo Museum, housing the world's largest collection of Inuit artifacts dating from pre-Dorset, Dorset, Thule and modern Inuit times.
Day 5
A Tundra Buggy Tour has been arranged this afternoon, allowing a rare opportunity to travel across the Wildlife Management Area in this giant vehicle. You may spot Ptarmigan, Arctic Fox, Snowy Owl, and possibly even Caribou.
Day 6
Enjoy a second opportunity to spend time with the 'Sea Canaries of the North' on a one-hour zodiac tour. You will have free time to shop for souvenirs before your transfer to the airport for the Calm Air flight to Winnipeg.
