Brisbane and O'Reilly's
O'Reilly's is simply fabulous, and richly deserves its reputation as one of the world's best birdwatching lodges. We spend the whole day exploring the network of trails. The area is well known for the excellent opportunities to see a range of rainforest 'specials' - including Noisy Pitta, Green Catbird, and Logrunner. This is bowerbird country, with the stunning Regent Bowerbird a fitting emblem for the lodge, and the dark blue Satin Bowerbird that loves to adorn its bower with bright blue objects - both are ridiculously easy to see as they come to the feeding areas - and may even perch on you!

The feeding areas here also attract hordes of colourful parrots during the day, with Sugar Gliders and other mammals, including abundant Red-necked Pademelons at night. Two of the local rainforest specialities are Albert's Lyrebird - we had superb views of a female on our last visit - and Paradise Riflebird. At slightly lower elevations can be found dry eucalypt forest, with a new range of species including the delightful Pretty-faced Wallaby.

Day 1
Arrive Brisbane airport where you will be met by your private specialist birding/wildlife guide. Birding on the Redcliffe Peninsula and nearby wetlands. Check into hotel in Brisbane late afternoon. Own arrangements for dinner. Accommodation: Hotel in Brisbane (en suite room). Meals: Lunch
Day 2
Early breakfast and then birding and wildlife viewing south-west of Brisbane. Areas you will visit include Kalbar, Main Range National Park, Warwick, Stanthorpe and Girraween National Park. Dinner at your own expense this evening. Accommodation: Stanthorpe area (B&B or hotel style) Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Day 3
An early breakfast today, followed by another full day of private guiding today in the area west of Stanthorpe. Then head to Lamington National Park birding. Arrive O'Reilly's Guesthouse late afternoon. Accommodation: O'Reilly's Guesthouse (en suite room). Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4
Full day's birding and wildlife viewing around O'Reilly's and in Lamington National Park. Night tour tonight to see some of the nocturnal mammals and birds. Accommodation: O'Reilly's Guesthouse (en suite room). Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5
Another full day's birding with Roy around O'Reilly's and in Lamington National Park. Accommodation: O'Reilly's Guesthouse (en suite room). Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6
Depart O'Reilly's after breakfast and travel back to Brisbane birding en route. Own arrangements for dinner. (Option of departure on afternoon flight if connection times to next destination of your choice allow). Accommodation: Hotel in Brisbane (en suite room). Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
