Birding The Nothe

In itself, the park is unremarkable, with the usual collection of lawns, shrubberies and car park. But its location, on a peninsula of land jutting out into sheltered Weymouth Bay, makes it a great place for birding, with a remarkable variety of species noted here and in the surrounding waters. I've been counting birds here since 1981, and there are other records going back to the fifties.

For Bird and Wildlife Annual Reports - click here! 2005 report now on-line! Find out more about The Nothe - its history, its Napoleonic Fort, a summary of the birds found during the year, and why over the years I found it such a fascinating local 'patch'. There are also links to other sites about the area, birding sites, maps, weather etc. Please note that since I have moved a bit inland, my visits here are much less frequent than in the past. However I will keep the site going for the record, and will add new records intermittently. Please continue to send in your records ! |
