Summary of sightings for species other than birds in 2002.

Mammals
Eurasian Badger Meles meles: Reports from the N side, from the Tavern Lawns with cubs in summer, and on 8 Oct.
Grey Seal Halichoerus grypus: One juv. or female in Newton's Cove on 11 Oct was the first record from the site.
Bottle-nosed Dolphin Tursiops truncatus: A tame individual male, known locally as 'Randy', was reported from Newton's Cove, and, more often, in Weymouth Harbour, on various dates Apr-Sep. Apparently he would follow boats out of the harbour, and was quite keen on the small ferry rowing boat crossing the harbour.

Grey Squirrel Sciurus carolinensis: Present all year. Still increasing with record max 15 on 30 Jun - the previous record max was just seven! Monthly maxima as follows:

Brown Rat Rattus norvegicus: Present all year, but not often seen. Singles noted on 11 dates.
Reptiles
Common Lizard Lacerta vivipera: One on the S landslip on 16 Jun was my first record for the Nothe.
Amphibians
Common Frog Rana temporaria: Reported from garden pond.
Common Toad Bufo bufo: Reported from garden pond.
Fish
Dogfish sp.: Caught off the Stone Pier, 28 Dec
Corkwring Wrasse Crenilabrus melops: Seen and caught off the Stone Pier. Noted 28 & 29 Jul.
Mackerel Scomber scombrus: Several caught off the pier, 28 & 29 Jul.
Sunfish Mola mola: One reported in Weymouth Bay in the Echo, 28 Jul.
Butterflies
Large White Pieris brassicae: Noted 10 May - 1 Sep. Max 11 on 24 Aug.
Small White Artogeia rapae: Noted 25 Apr - 31 Aug. Record max 28 on 24 Aug.
Green-veined White Artogeia napae : Single on 24 May on the NE slope was my first record for The Nothe
Clouded Yellow Colias croceus: A small influx of 6 on 24 Aug only.
Holly Blue Celastrina argiolus: Three on 10 May.
Common Blue Polyommatus icarus: Noted 16 & 18 Jun, then again 24 & 26 Aug, record max 15 on 24 Aug.
Peacock Inachis io: Singles on 10 May, 2 & 24 Aug.
Red Admiral Vanessa atalanta: Noted 29 Jul - 14 Oct. Max 4 on 9 Oct.
Painted Lady Vanessa cardui: Noted 16 & 18 Jun and 11-31 Aug. Record max 7 on 24 Aug.
Small Tortoiseshell Aglais urticae: A good influx in late August. Noted 23 - 31 Aug, record max 7 on 28 Aug.
Marbled White Melanargea galathea: Noted 4 Jul - 11 Aug. Record max 15 on 4 Jul.
Meadow Brown Maniola jurtina: Noted 4 Jul - 24 Aug, max 3 on 17 Jul.
Ringlet Aphantopus hyperantus: A superb year. Noted 18 Jun - 4 Aug, max 9 on 6 Jul.
Gatekeeper Pyronia tithonus: Noted 17 Jul - 24 Aug, record max 26 on 29 Jul.
Speckled Wood Pararge aegeria: A rather poor year. Noted 18 Jun - 30 Sep, max 3 on 26 Aug.
Wall Brown Lasiommata megera: One on 24 Aug was perhaps surprisingly my first record for The Nothe.
Small Skipper Thymelicus sylvestris : Two on 17 Jul. My first record for The Nothe.
Large Skipper Ochlodes venatus: Noted 16 Jun - 29 Jul, max 2 on 17 Jul.
Moths
Chrysoteuchia culmella: Noted 28 Jul & 4 Aug.
Crambus perlella: Noted 28 Jul.
Agriphila tristella: Noted 28 Jul.

Udea fulvalis : A rare immigrant to the UK, previously noted in the Poole/Parkstone area, caught on 28 Jul around the toilet block lights with many other species. The first record for The Nothe, and possibly for the Weymouth area! |

Six-spot Burnet Zygaena filipendulae: One on 29 July, again in the landslip area of the south slopes.
Common Emerald Hemithea aestivaria: One on 18 July.
Brimstone Moth Opisthograptis luteolata: One on 26 Apr & one on 12 Aug.
Early Thorn Selenia dentaria: One on 4 Apr.
Mullein Wave Scopula marginepunctata: Singles on 4 & 17 July.
Small Dusty Wave Idaea seriata: One on 29 Aug.
Single-dotted Wave Idaea dilutaria: One on 22 Jul.
Riband Wave Idaea aversata: One on 22 Jun.
The Cinnabar Tyria jacobaeae: Larvae from 4 Aug.
Large Yellow Underwing Noctua pronuba: One on 31 Aug.
Bright-line Brown-eye Lacanobia oleracea : One on 6 Jul.
Common Quaker Orthosia stabilis : One on 24 May.
Marbled Beauty Cryphia domestica: One on 28 Jul.
Marbled Green Cryphia muralis: Two on 22 Aug, with one on 23 Aug.
Dark Arches Apamea monoglypha: One on 22 Jun.
Flounced Rustic Luperina testacea: Noted 22 Aug - 28 Sep. Max 7 on 31 Aug.
Vine's Rustic Hoplodrina ambigua: One on 25 Aug.
Silver Y Autographa gamma: One on 24 Aug.
Orthoptera
Dark Bush-cricket Pholidoptera griseoaptera: Adults noted calling from 22 Aug to 28 Sep.
Meadow Grasshopper Chorthippus parallellus: Adults noted 18 Jul - 31 Aug.
Common Field Grasshopper Chorthippus brunneus: Just one on 24 Aug.
Dragonflies
Southern Hawker Aeshna cyanea: Noted 26 Jul - 30 Sep. Max 4 on 29 Aug.
Scarce/Migrant Hawker Aeshna mixta: Singles on 23 & 24 Aug and 17 Sep. The first records, but hard to distinguish from A. cyanea as these are usually seen in flight high above the trees.
Common Darter Sympetrum striolatum: One on 24 Aug.
Other insects
Syrphus balteatus : Migrant hoverfly noted in large nos on 28 & 29 Aug.
Volucella zonaria: Spectacular hornet-like hoverfly noted on 24 Aug.
Other groups
Sea Slater Ligia oceanica: Single noted on 17 May.
Edible Crab: One dead noted on 28 Jul.
